THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
Jelani founded Empowering Mentorships in March 2020 to provide young men of color with the tools necessary for empowered, purpose driven lives. Jelani’s educational and professional background are perfectly tailored for building a meaningful and long-lasting mentorship program and has over 10 years of experience working with minority male youth. During those 10 years, he was able to identify gaps in the education system that often snag and hinder young men of color. The central focus of Empowering Mentorships is to fill those gaps by teaching financial literacy, career skills, and develop soft and technical skills, just to name a few.
Joshua M. Nelms is an Associate Director with Transamerica Financial Advisors, Inc. in San Diego, CA. Joshua was previously a Director for Mutual of Omaha Advisors; and also served as Vice President for MetLife / MassMutual in San Diego where helped run a large firm of nearly 45+ Advisors. Joshua is passionate about giving back to the community and serves as conductor between urban and executive communities.
Marcus Stallworth joined Empowering Mentorships with the vision and drive to improve upon our Non-Profit Organization, and focused on developing the organization with experience and integrity. Marcus provides strategic development and insight for the direction of Empowering Mentorships and is driven to create equity in minority communities.
Andrea is the founder of Paige Publishing LLC and strives to empower women wherever she goes. Andrea has an expansive network of professionals she has worked with ranging from actors in Hollywood to non profit organizers in various states across the country. Andrea brings a vast array of public relations, administrative skills, perspectives and connections to the Empowering Mentorships team.
Tyrone Nance is a passionate leader who has dedicated his life to connecting others through transformative community engagement. Having worked in the nonprofit sector for several years and community organizing for over a decade, Tyrone has organized a lot of community events throughout the city of Los Angeles that have been centered around justice, equality and unity. Tyrone was able to participate with international relief work in developing nations, worked with several churches in the LA area their community outreach and engagement efforts, and has also worked on Skid Row at the Union Rescue Mission, advocating for those experiencing homelessness.
Tyrone Nance received his B.A. in Public Relations from Oral Robert’s University and M.A. in Transformational Urban Leadership from Azusa Pacific University. Currently, Tyrone is a Volunteer Manager and Community Outreach specialist for a Mental Health Center.
Native of South Los Angeles and graduate of Crenshaw High School class of 2006.
Ronald Preston Clark is a High School Humanities teacher at Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men in Chicago. Born and raised in San Diego and a graduate of Hampton University, Clark fights for safe spaces for Black men - young and old - to improve their emotional and mental health. He spent his 20s defining masculinity for himself in the same misogynistic environment in which many of our men grow up. Flawed, transparent and accountable for his actions, Clark’s growth through his own mistakes has charged him to lead others through literacy, education and self-consciousness. Clark serves as Director of Education for Empowering Mentorships and is an alum of the RISE San Diego Urban Leadership Fellowship Program and the RISE Urban Principal Preparation Program.
Andrew serves as Outreach Coordinator and is passionate about making connections with the community and its members. Andrew is currently an insurance professional and utilizes his professional experience to advance the mission of Empowering Mentorships when dealing with corporations, mentees etc... Andrew is a San Diego Native, having attended Mt. Helix High School and has a deep history in athletics leading to his competitive approach to everything he does!
